Ok so i decided i wanted some more RAM for my PC as 1GB just doesnt cut it anymore.
I was fishing around the internet when i came across this system scanner called Everest. This led on to me discovering - as i had no previous idea - that this old 3.0ghz p4 is a LGA 775 socket, apparently.
So there are Core 2's that fit this socket according to msot shops. Is that correct? From what I understand if I invest a few GB of RAM and a core 2 my geforce 8500gt should be OK'ish and i might have a reasonable spec for relatively cheap?
Is all this possible or am I just fishing for a cheap kop out of having to save up for a new system/laptop.
LGA 775 Core 2 Duo?

Re: LGA 775 Core 2 Duo?
Assuming your motherboard supports it, which it might just need a BIOS upgrade, then you could put a core2duo in (something like the E6650, get one of the ones that end in 50 rather than 00 as they use less energy and give off less heat).
Then get some DDR2 RAM, make sure you have enough slots first, but may be worth taking out what you have at the moment and get the same type, probably PC6400 or something like that.

What motherboard is it? Everest should tell you, if not take the side of the computer off and have a look on the motherboard, normally has the model number printed on it.
