Wireless

Post by Revolver »

Right so i know some of you lot have played using wireless but mines just ridiculous. I know its not the laptop cos i played last week or before with it wired into the router and there wasnt any issues.

Now i got it on wireless not too far from the router, probably 7 metres. But when i play CS (and i think WoW a little bit too but its not so noticable) its so choppy and laggy. Speedtests are saying my connection is fine and i dont get "spikes" or high latency its just really jumpy. I can notice it in game too so its not just people looking at me.

Im on vista as well so i have even less idea of where to look for things that could be a problem than i would have had on xp. But if anyone has any ideas or knows anything and could let me know i'd appreciate it.

Like i say im really trying to avoid running a cable if i can help it cos it means running it up the stairs...

You know you want to cable it...

Could try changing the channel on the router, although it probably won't help.

Sometimes the wireless being too close can cause problems.

sorry dude I actually just read ur post and u r only 7m away, so ignore my above post

what router are u using and what signal strength is ur wireless utility showing? Is ur wireless adapter internal or USB?

sometimes even with a 60-80% signal strength showing it doesnt mean u have a good quality signal - might be worth getting a script set up to see how good your wireless link is holding up.

FYI I used to play CSS and BF2 on wireless in my old house, when the router was upstairs about 12m across a floor without any problems and I'm about to stick a new router in my current house (Edimax 300mbps MIMO with 7dbi antenna upgrades, one directional), and this will be used for gaming :)
