May not be the best place but not all content can be moderated. These sort of things happen you can't keep everyone in their bubble wrapped world forever.StupidSexyFlanders wrote:so facebook is the right place for this sort of content? gtfo

Re: Man cut in half...
Well facebook is ultimately community driven. I could put a vid on there of my balls slapping someones chin. It might get "moderated" a some point but i bet it would get a few views before hand. Point is, a site like facebook is the place for whatever people put there. If someone is moronic enough to place a video o a man cut in half on there then so be it. Also, different cultures will view things differently. For example, the japanese site probably has several videos of how to cook cats or dogs you find on the street, whereas that wouldn't exactly be smiled upon here in the UK.skeletor wrote:May not be the best place but not all content can be moderated. Re: Man cut in half...
Well in the case of Regina v Perrin: This brought residents of the UK who use offshore servers for distribution, into the jurisdiction of the UK Law for obscene content. However bearing in mind that obscene material is difficult to define when in the case of that video, Ive not watched it but I pressume it is a man getting cut in half. If that was due to a accident, an act of war ect ect it is quite hard to class it as obscene material, indeed it is quite often shown on the news. However if it is a video of a criminal act like a murder the host may well commit an offence under the Obscene Publications Act 1959 & 1964 extended to include video in 1977.
The law makes it an offence to publish, whether for gain or not, any content whose effect will tend to "deprave and corrupt" those likely to read, see or hear the matter contained or embodied in it. This could include images of extreme sexual activity such as bestiality, necrophilia, rape or torture.
Although the law and enforcement side of it concentrates on the sexual side for preventing child porn and other sorts of extreme pornography. Now having worked with a certain type of offender in my old job at the Probation Service I can understand why the Internet should be controlled. I believe you will allways have a certain number of people in society who are simply extremely deviant by nature. The problem with massive amounts of material, people with similar views found on forums ect I believe it can make a offender more likely / more confident to offend (No hard facts on this issue as yet as research with is allmost impossible). I feel also that people in general exposing themselves to this type of violent material is wrong, it leads to an unbalanced perception of todays current society in the UK which is not all that bad in reality. The first time I saw something truly shocking was when I visited Africa and had to step over a dead child in the street (Long Story) however that was daily reality over there. Do we really need to see horrible images of people being killed (There are cases for this such as for education) ?, does viewing this content desensitise us ?, might it desensitise others of a weaker/ younger mind ?
However if you become desensitised to the material were might that leave you ?.

Re: Man cut in half...
It is always about context though.
Seeing someone get stabbed with no one telling you if it is good or bad will have a different effect on different people.
If a child was to watch a man getting stabbed and could see their parents horrified by it they would likely have the same opinion and follow suite. The alternative is that at a young age they could actually be aroused by it (no oo err's) and it can be come a fantasy to them which they then take up later in life and start killing with no motive other than to fulfil their fantasy.
The bloke in the video was in an accident as far as I can tell and lost pretty much everything below the intestines.

this is a good point.. the images you can view do desensitise you . i remebr the first hairy beaheding vids from iraq... and how they really shocked and afected me. but after seeing a few, the shock part kind of went away.Do we really need to see horrible images of people being killed (There are cases for this such as for education) ?, does viewing this content desensitise us ?, might it desensitise others of a weaker/ younger mind ?
younger kids dont need to be subjected to this sort of thing. their brains are still developing and things influence kids quiet easyily.
im not for cencorship either, but nasty stuff should be on nasty sites...not on facebook

Re: Man cut in half...
Two points from my perspective. Firstly this was an accident. Second thing, it was a member of the public that posted it on facebook.sparksy wrote:im not for cencorship either, but nasty stuff should be on nasty sites...not on facebook
As for what should kids see or not see? I got shown some pretty nasty things as a child for the purposes of "this is why you don't mess around near roadsides" etc. Granted it is not as extreme as a man sliced in two but it was necessary for me to instill the fear factor of gettng ran over. This did nothing however compared to when I saw a lad I went school with get dragged along by a bus (long story) and his leg ran over. Sometimes you just can't replicate the real thing.
And when you consider programs like 999, they were never as gory or horrific as an actual accident but they did their best to replicate them. Like the kid who slipped doing javelin at school and had it stuck through his neck.
I suppose that really it shouln't be on facebook wthout some kind of censorship but at the same time any kid that was already a bit twisted in the head can find a lot worse by searching for a few minutes on the internet.

Re: Man cut in half...
well ok an accident is was.
. firstly... nobody is doing a thing to help the poor cunt, even if its a "hang on mate..help is on the way" it would have give the bloke a bit of comfort..
obviously the guy with the camcorder is thinking this is gonna look great on.. some reality thing...
the gore thing isnt really going to help with anything as you dont see how it happened....if hed been ran over you could do a .." join the tuffty club" campain ( sry my age showing again.. tuffty was a squiril that helped you cross the road when i was a little kid)
see blackblazes link is were this belongs... its just a morbid curiosity vid .... facebook is for people trying to get off with other people...not hidous death vids..
