DVD Rips are encoded using Xvid codec so can be sent through your PC to your 360, although not sure if they need to be transcoded first to mpeg, but I think Microsoft updated the 360 so you don't need to.

Any sort of download can be played through your laptop.

yeah ive streamed it thru xbox... most files you get are avi... some are mkv.... for that its best to use ..vlc media player
