unfortunately rapid.org is too open and is easy to find out what people are downloading.
it is.. lik i said its to easy... BUT.. all the companys can do is ask them to delite files.. which rapidshare do.... there is no proof that the people that download files know what they are..... and they are private files..... so its hard to take anyone to court... were as torrents are file sharing.. live over the net..and the file is called , well whatever it is
for instance...this rapidshare file is called FF105 pt2...what is that ???? i know but you dont
the law will be changed i imagine..... and providers will see it as a way to get you to pay for anonanimity if you download a lot....all greedy cocks in the end

The package which they are checking will still come through your internet though wouldnt it?

But it would go through a secure tunnel. There are ways to check it, but it will take a lot of work to do and would be completely against the law as VPNs are over a secure connection ie where credit card information is passed.

realisticly... how are they going to check what everyone is downloading/uploading... i mean the average person like us... fuck me they cant even man cctv cameras in hi-crime areas never mind police the net... can you image the amount of data you would have to keep track of ? i think they will go for the people making money out of it tbh.... the serious big downloaders, and most of those are peer to peer aint they ?
What they would call "serious offenders" are the original scene crew. There have been a few scene groups that have been taken down, but everytime one goes down others come in and the scene constantly grows. If you didn't know when you get releases the Scene group name is at the end of the file name, TV shows tend to be DiMENSiON, CTU etc Games are RELOADED, RAZOR1911, SKiDROW etc
The companies that are getting the data of the infringers are private companies not the music industry themselves so if this legislation goes through there will likely be a few new companies crop up to do the job. The Police won't be policing it but the men with $$$ will be.
At the end of the day I wouldn't of thought any of us would get a letter let alone cut off, but it is the principal of the matter. If the Government is willing to put in legislation that makes citizens guilty until proven innocent it makes a mockery of the system (although it already is a laughing stock when you can pretty much get away with murder).
If i was going to get a spanking for downloading an album or a single, i would just go buy the album and say "i had it anyway". What the fuck are they gonna do then?
"When did you buy this?"
"Dunno, bought it cash from HMV and didnt keep the receipt, now fuck off and stop watching my downloading".
In reply to the music industry losig money through downloading, thats not true, cos half the shit people download they only download because they can.
I wouldn't buy Cage the Elephant but i downloaded it through curiosity because it was the intro track to Borderlands. If i couldn't download it would i have gone out and bought it? No. So did anyone lose out on anything? No.
I do believe in payin for albums if its a band/artist/whatever who deserve it. However, I will not pay for the shit that, like Skel said, is just "crap the music industry are pushing out" (not exact quote cant be arsed to go back a page) so fuck them. They have been ripping people off for years anyway so its their own fault.
On a final note, ISP's should get the fuck out of peoples business. Providing bandwidth is one thing, looking at what goes through it is completely another.

Unfortunately the industry believes every download is a lost sale which we all know is not true.
In fact a lot of people download and end up buying more because they like it such as I did with Prison Break. I only bought the box sets because I liked it after downloading.
There have been 2 or 3 independant studies now, one by the RIAA which keeps on sueing people that pirates actually purchase more than non-pirates down to the fact they can find what they want.
ive downloaded... and then bought loads of stuff, like toy story ect.... then the kids wreck em... i download em again....
there is a right loads of shit out there as well... i mean how the fuck some of these film makers would expect people to buy some films is amazing really..
ok for a quick watch but really..... i wouldnt part with a quid for some films ive seen.
