Because Microsoft have built a huge monopoly that has made software developers and hardware manufactures build hardware/software for the Windows platform. This creates more support for Windows, which in turn makes OEMs like Dell, HP and Acer sell computers with Windows.

You also have to think about the fact that if you shoved your average PC user infront of a PC with Linux installed they probably wouldn't know what the fuck they were looking at.

And it is also extremely hard for Linux to outsell Windows when Linux doesn't cost anything.

The reason why Linux isn't used so much is pretty much the same reason why Macs aren't used that much. They have limited compatiability.

And for you information, Dell are starting to ship some of their PCs with Ubuntu preinstalled. Dell never had a contract with Microsoft to put Windows on their PCs but they did because that is what the PC users know and like to use.

If I offered you a computer with XP on it and a computer with Linux on it, and they were identical except for that, you would chose the XP one because you know what XP is.

Oh and by the way, I do like Microsoft...meh.

Linux is a open source operating system any fucker in the world can get hold
of the source code and change whatever the fuck they wanted in it.

Only reason why linux isnt preinstalled with new computers is because the average user is some kid
at 13 years of age on chats rooms who have no idea what the fuck they are doing.

Wine and operoffice make it so you can use a number of windows programs and also
linux is getting known in the software department.

Dell are going the way forward for putting ubuntu on preinstalled.
