I hate games that hide options until you have completed it. I bought the game, I should be able to play on whatever difficulty I want to.

It's the way it's meant to be played. Simple as that really. If you didn't even know the options were there until you had completed it the first time it wouldn't make any difference to you would it?

No, but it is when it is clear that it is an option but is greyed out.

But at least they have the good grace to let you know there is more.

You complete the game on normal, then get to the main menu only to find that you can now play through it again with slightly less ammo....great. I find most of those games that have hidden hard levels have rather easy normal levels.

Another thing that bugs me is games with a training level, incorporate it in to the story properly. Especially FPS. It was used on the original Half Life, fair enough some new ideas in that game, but most other games copy it and the level isn't needed and you often have to wait for some idiot to stop speaking before you can shoot the target which you saw 5 minutes before he started talking.

"Now, see that target over there?"

CoD 2 did it well, it started out like some sort of training mission shooting some targets. Bottles and some helmets on a stick. Then there is a german offensive and you're in the thick of it. After that they throw a tank in the mix to familiarise you with smoke grenades since they hadn't been in the the original CoD.

Yes, I remember COD did it really well, but the whole shoot bottles etc is rather annoying for those that have been playing FPS for quite a while.

Good thing about Final Fantasy was that it allowed you to skip all the tutorial parts.

I think that was a piss take really. It's so quick between the "training" and being in action that it was irrelevant. It's not even like you have to actually hit a target because there are NPC's doing the same thing at the same time. It did do the "do you want to invert the mouse?" thing though.

Never really understand the invert, why would you want to?

COD MW2 had the training run at the start to decide what difficulty you should do. That was OK, but you get pissed off when it tells you, you are shit.

First modern warfare did the boat run (which relates to the first mission so at least they tried to do something with it again) to decide difficulty. Thing is, I run through it a few times and there is no way shooting dummies can tell you what difficulty to use. I only got medium or hard the few times I had a go, I think very hard was a daft time when I looked it up.

Thing with that was, rushing through that course is useless when you compare it to some of the first missions where stealth is the best/only way to get through the level alive.

Stealth is easier than the gunfights? Well I thought it was anyway. The hardest thing I found was when you're on the Pripyat sniper mission and the patrol comes through, I found it so hard to get through. Then i started using a tree circling it as one guy went past one side then moved to the other, found this worked on nearly all difficulties as well. Where as if you just drop and try to avoid them I got spotted everytime. I think I was stuck waiting for the pickup on the exit of that level on hard mode before I formatted the drive. I'm not going through it all again though, can't be arsed.
