Don't know if that is realistic though. I have seen various examples (albeit handheld magnets) which had no affect whatsoever on hard drive data.

Hard drives are pretty resilient. If it was turned on when it happened then there would have been risk of the arm scratching the data plate but laptop hard drives have a device that lifts off the hard drive when not in use to avoid this. The other thing is, that the laptop may have had an SSD which would probably be fine.

Only had time for one show last night while having my dinner and went with True Blood. I'm going to watch the latest episode on Thursday allow me to play CSS tonight. How about that for commitment.
