Well it was quite a smart move on his part, under UK law "you have the right to defend yourself, using equal or proportional force". So he waited basically till the force was reasonable, obviously knew what he was doing. Last thing he wants is to beat the little fucker up with a crowd about and a camera on him because he would end up getting charged a lot more than the "youth".

I know in Ireland the law is slightly different, Allthough it would have originally been derived from UK common Law before independence however some of the law making has differed greatly in the last 80 years. That did happen in Britain. Someone tried to steal from a farmer who shot him in the back as he fled the farm. Think he was locked up for murder.

he did get ou though didnt he? this is the martin case were on about. but there was a bit of premeditation on his behalf as he took his staircase out first so the burgalers (he knew were coming..and did tell the police about but they did nothing to help) couldnt run upstairs out the way of his shotie.... ave it i say.
