OK, so, this is the worst idea in the world but I might not have any choice as i have no room for a big lumbering desktop. Yes, you know what i am about to say.
I am considering the purchasing of a laptop.
For gaming.....
DUH DUH DUHHH!
Basically, I dont expect to run Crysis, i still havnt played it and dont care to, but what i do want is.
WoW and CS and other steam titles and summit like fallout 3 would be bonus. If this is completely unrealistic without spending £1500 then so be it but what i want to know, (since some of you [skele.....] seem to know a lot more about hardware than i ever will care to) is something like this ( http://www.simplyacer.com/Acer_Aspire_6 ... 11992.html ) going to do the basics well.
Bare in mind i currently play on a very shit and full of crap conjested to the point of exploding, 3gig pentium 4, with a £40 (at the time) geeforce 8500gt and 1 gig of ram. A laptop running things reasonably well and lasting for a couple of years (like 2 years tops) would be a real solution for me
Anyhow sorry i havnt been around then turn up to post a big wall of crap text asking questions, but if i can get myself online with a beasty laptop then i could even resurrect my dwindling css career....
As final notes, £600 is a good figure, i could go a little more if needed, and how would the fact i would need to be wireless to get online affect things?

To be honest, if you have to go for a laptop, that laptop isn't a bad spec. The only issue with it being from Acer. Used to have loads of them and at my old work and they literally fell to pieces, but then again they weren't looked after very well by the little darling students.

Re: Don't mock the idea!
Well I think that build quality is something that is reflected in price. I just want a simple solution so that at home i can prop up the laptop and wack on a full size keyboard and mouse if i want to and still be able to quickly fold it up and whack it in the car.
There is always a trade off with laptops regarding price/performance/life but im needing a "console-y" solution to my PC gaming at the moment. On top of that I cant justify spending £1000 on a PC if im still living with the parents lol. Desktop comes when i have my own room for it to live in that isnt my bedroom as well
The way i see it, graphics dont bother me that much anyway so if i can run stuff on medium settings and not be restricted to warcraft 3, quake 3 and peggle i think i would be quite happy. Like i say i just aint actually got a clue what would be minimum requirements to running things in a respectable non laughable way

You could get away with very little I think.
An alternative is to buy a small shuttle PC, but you will be hard pressed to get one for the price of a laptop.
