Wireless Router

Post by Revolver »

OK so i want a wireless router, because apparently my little sis wants to get her fancy ass pink Vaio online around the house and since i'll have wireless i may as well finally wack the xbox online too (adapter a bloody rip off though).
So i have no idea how they work, im assuming cable out of modem -> router then can you stil cable in my PC and wireless everything else? since the modem is next to PC the router will be too.

Im on virgin which is 2mb atm but bout to get free upgrade to 10mb. If my sis is gonna be constantly fucking around on wireless browsing can i set it so that when im on the PC i want 90% of the bandwidth or summit?

Lastly, whats the cheapest one i can get to do the job? Bloody technologies, all houses should come pre fitted with this kinda shit in future.

If ya get the wireless modem and the modem is beside the pc then get a ethernet cable for the pc and use the wireless adaptor for the X-Box.

Or usually with a wireless modem there is 4 other lan ports and an additional ethernet port so...... :
Get a 6-7ft telephone cable and put it in a lan port and connect it to the pc, use the ethernet cable for the X-Box so you don't have to waste the money on the adaptor and your securely connected 100% (Wireless can fuck up) (but if your connected to the modem then your as happy as a potato filled paddy). Go onto setting and give your sister 5% bandwidth. Buy Left 4 Dead also, just thought I'd add that in... What a game. And happy birthday Blazey Baby. Was in Poland drinking on your behalf.

Assuming you are on cable, make sure you don't get an ADSL router.

You really don't want to use wireless for PC or Xbox really. Wireless is still extremely poor and unreliable for gaming.

I think it is this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-WGR614U ... B0000C1WO2 that I have, which works well and nice and cheap, will have to wait till I get home and check it is the right one though. Wireless is fine for browsing the net, but no good for streaming porn.

Only prob I have is modem/PC and therefore router is downstairs. xbox upstairs, left, then in the far corner (in other words, about 5m away from PC, but without drilling through central heating pipes 20m cable route)
