cd-rom/dvd-rw not reading disks

my cd/dvd-rom and my dvd-rw burner wont read any dvd disks.

i was trying to install a game for devil spawn and it just wont read it....... wont read normal dvds... or games ive installed previously

it will however read audio cds fine

im figuring its not a hardware fault..as both are doing it.. any ideas...

device manager say both working ok..

tryed microsoft fix it thing.. no good..

looked in registry.. cant find the uplifter/downlifter thing

any ideas folks im lost

Fraid to say it probably is a hardware fault. The laser is probably buggered and can no longer read DVD's.

agree with skell i think igot that before even though it reads as ok on windows etc and says reading it could be the lazer is just screwed you see that happen sometimes on dvd players! :p

well ive cleaned the lenses and it plays cds fine..

but its not just the cd-rom... its the other dvd-rw burnr as well.. both have just stoped playing dvds ??

the dvd burner is fairly new as well.....

is there any codecs i can download to see if thats the prob first ??

Ah so it can read the disc but just doesn't play the content of it?

Download VLC player and try it in there.

VLC player is the best. plays DVDs when media player wont for me

no it was the hardware .. bought a lg dvd burner... works fine.... both must have died ..coincidence
