Slow down (big FPS drop)

OK so i run CS on he laptop withhigh settings bla bla bla and its all good at a solid 120FPS.

But what happens is at regular intervals FPS drops to 20-30 FPS and makes it unplayable. I dont seem to have anything running in the background and if i check task manager there are no extra processes when it happens... I read somewhere about it could be if the processor gets too hot it changes the speed automatically to help cool it down but its happens when its just been turned on. It's not always been like thiseither its only recently.

Anyone got any ideas?

I tried lwering the graphics to see if it is nything to do with that but the same thing still happens. It also only seems to be i CS, i play plenty other games and it doesnt seem to make a difference, unles its just only on CS i notice it...

Install speedfan and run CSS in windows mode and have the temperatures visible. Could well the CPU/GPU being throttled due to high temps.

according to that the GPU is through the roof just after start up (had it shut down for the last 30-40mins)

it says GPUis a 80 C plus. and thats not good....

In a desktop PC, GPUs are OK up to 100 C not sure what the limit is on laptops but I highly doubt it is that high.

Did a full reinstall and it still does exactly the same thing cant see whats causing it, i removed all the shit fromthe factory image but to no luck still. Just cant see whats going on

80 is wayyy to high for a laptop, you should not go over 65.

What GPU you have?

Nvidia>? try the nvidia tool to drop the speed down and fan up

Yes but i turned the laptop over yesterday after some solid CS and gotta say there was hardly any warmth on it anywhere. If that things hitting them temps you must be able to feel it somewhere.

Also, i have no idea what tool you're on about.

I downloaded RMClock cos apparently these acers suffer with cpu throttling, i disabled some option (that said if its enabled can cause throttling and heat increases on CPU) and it did seem to play for longer before slowdown. So now im not even sure it is GPU - considering speed fan isnt necessarily accurate on laptops.

Should just be able to throttle the fan speed up and that should take care of the issue, failing that.. have you got a fan dock for the laptop, i think i mentioned this in another post.. they do work pretty well.


just to let yknow, on occasion.. these throttling and slowdown symptons can relate to a dying or damaged GPU, but in this occasion, and resources ive read it's likely to be heat, do consider the fan dock, it could solve your problems
and prolong the laptops life.
