i had to clean out the pc last night... mega amounts of fluff inside...anyway i pulled out the graphics card to clean out.... when it all went back toghether... it wouldnt boot up pulling it back out again and the sound card... plopped just the graphics card back in... and it booted up sound card may have been frazzled by my hoovering.... puts the lid and sides back on.. turns it on... FUCK ALL ..wouldnt boot up again
so by now im gettin confused.... out comes the graphics card again.. extra hoovering and blowing and proding the motherboard.... and then i looked at the pins on the card... the gold ones at the bottom... 2 had small bits missing... been pulled off while ramming it in and out (oo-er) into the pci-e slot....
i mentioned "i wonder if i could solder it..." my mate says no chance.. bigg blob of solder wont work..hmm
so what happened me thinks is the two missing bits of gold pin must have been in the pci-e slot and the secong time i put the card back .. it made a connection..and worked... but after i cleaned it all again..i must had removed them.. so wont work..
so wifey says ... " bet i could fix it with some gold leaf".... being the arty one with the steady hand she trotted off and appled adheasive in the gaps and placed two very small bits of gold leave foil to make a fullpin again
my mate was sort of saying " i very much doubt it will work but its worth a try"....
fuck me it booted up straight away..and is working fine... fuckin ave it

Your mate can't know a lot then. I believe the "pins" are gold leaf pressed from the factory.
And yes they do occasionally come off cards. But you shouldn't really put a vacuum cleaner in a computer due to the static electricity.
