Which one?

Post by vambo »

Which Intel CPU?
def think im going to get one for me and my mum as she is also wanting a new pc.

I think for me its still going to be E6600 but which one for mum... she doesnt need a super fast pc really but want her to be happy for some time with it. ill def get her one with 4Mb cache.

Any suggestions, for me also?

BTW i'm getting a refund for the E6600 i brought in a drunken exploited episode the other week, took them 12days to deliver!

I would get the E6320. 1.86GHz, 4MB L2 Cache. Get a nice 2.4GHz overclock and you are running free :)

And you posted in the wrong section, moving to Hardware Talk

I know but these things run stable at 3ghz not 2.4 without wringing its neck so i could leave hers oclocked without problems hopefully, ill silver her sink and that should be that. She will be edititng home video so it'll help with the extra 600mhz i think. It's not her money anyway it's my step dads :o

Next step is to chose her a Motherboard, we are looking at getting intergrated gpx for now then when she gets vista she will also upgrade to a PCIe gfx looking to spend about 80 max.

We already have 150gbsata hd and 2gig ddr2 667 just need a new dvd writer and a cheap but nice case.

I would get the Gigabyte GA_965P_S3 for the motherboard.

And a cheap 8500GT graphics card like this. DX10 so fully Vista ready.

For the case:

Gigabyte Cases

They are cheap and quiet and have adequate cooling.

Thanks Skel just the parts, she's ordering them when she can decide which case she wants, been on phone talking to her about pc bits and on the tinternet for 2hrs. I have Talked about GFX cards and the directx10 she now understands about the different Chipset makers and she even understands what a raid is! Now trust me two and a half hours talking to constantly to my mum has never happened to me, i'm fucked, my right side of my head feels like its going to implode!

But i must say thanks for your recomendations Skel, but it was your fault i rang her after seeing your post so its your fault i aint done shit this evening you mfker! But your choices were spot on and a very good price!

Sorry

My friend has that Gigabyte case and I was surprised by how quiet it was, all I could hear was the PSU, but that was an OCZ GameXStream. If you put a Seasonic or Zalman in there it would be pretty damn quiet.

Get a pair of Samsung Spinpoint 80GB in RAID 0, then a Samsung Spinpoint or Seagate Barracuda 500GB for storage (or less if thats not needed, if shes anything like my mum she will want 10 copies of each file incase the hard drive breaks, even though all the copies are on the same drive....she just doesn't understand.).

If she can wait, she may want to wait for ATi to release their new low end DX10 cards. Only consume 25W!!! Compared to the 150W or so that the X1950 and 8800's use.

Well some of it. Graphics card will lack the power to run CSS with high settings.
