well i built the new rig....
FAIL
first thing i did was use artic silver metal compound.. which i knoticed today had run off the cpu and dripped luckely onto the plastic edge of the pci-express slot... i think i will use paste instead,...
anyway the thing wont boot up.... power id going to the board... and the fans just start to turn for half a second... but then just stops... brad did ebay it off a while ago... and the geeza said he couldnt get it going.... so i think the board is a dud... shame it looked imaculate as well asus striker 11 formula
but ive bought the cpu/graphics card/ ram ( my old was ddr... i needed ddr2 for that board) a new HD /windows 7//////
so it looks liek ill have to get another motherboard....
im sure i fitted it all up ok.... i mean ive had to put the old one back toghether now.... with the new graphics card in it of course
ill get a new board and try again...... bill so far is up to £460 .. looks like another bill on top of that whith a half decent board
the new rig..

Re: the new rig..
Arctic Silver is a paste, but is metalic, so will short out the motherboard or cpu if it touches the wrong things.
take everything out the case and just have the motherboard, cpu with hs and fan, graphics and 1 ram stick in the first slot. no hdd etc and just plug the monitor so you can see any messages that might come up. put it all ontop of a cardboard box and using a flat headed screwdriver connect the 2 power pins on the motherboard to simulate the power button.
If you get nothing, reseat the cpu after cleaning off all the paste and reapplying a really small amount.

Re: the new rig..
sry got it wrong.. ive just bought artic paste...... it was cool laboratory liquid pro..... its just like mercury, but not toxic...but it driped out ...didnt touch the board circuits itself though..
ive cleaned all that off.... and ill use paste this time..BUT... on the power supply blocks on the board... you have the big block on the left hand side.. whith the 4 pin block next to it... and on the left hand side.. on brads board... there was 2x 4blocks...the ones that are shaped so you cant fuck up....were as on my board there is only 1x4...and on my power supply there is only 1x4 connector... could it be i need a better power pupply unit with two of the square connectors.... although i have just bought a new motherboard thinking that one is fooked....

Re: the new rig..
On some motherboards you will need both but on some you can get away with just the one but the second will give more stability when overclocking (should go in the right 4 from your pic).
Re: the new rig..
yeah with the clip at the top...... but my power supply only had one of these ... if it does need the 2... i would be bolloxed anyway..
got a fairly silmlar one.. bit cheaper.. one less pci slot

Re: the new rig..
You should only need 1 though as they come with a black bit of plastic covering the other 4 pins.
