Every hard drive is at risk of dying whether internal or external (they are the same drives, the external ones just come in a caddy).

The reason external ones die easier is because they are banged around a lot more. 2.5" Laptop hard drives generally have some shock control to stop the hard drive spinning and causing damage if it is hit too hard.

you forgot to mention that the fuckers can just die all of a sudden, i`d steer clear of WD external drives, while i was lookin on the net to try fix my one that just died i came across loads of people that had the same problems with wd
Fanfuckingtastic :| i have one of these lol mine seems to be doing alright at the moment though but i haven't had it any longer than 6 months

Indeed. But if that dies you lose everything rather than half your stuff.

only had two WD HDD, 1 fooking yoke broke after 2 months, and generally over those 2 months worked like a piece of shit. Apparently it was one of the faulty series and a lot were recalled, however I never bought one again. (got one for free with my current PC and it died after 3 weeks)

I know that I will never think of WD when looking for a new HDD.
