Netbooks/Mini's with Optical Drive?

Post by Revolver »

Are there any half decent netbooks that come with an optical drive. Seems like you have to jump a chunk in size to get optical in it. How usable are external opticals?
My bro is looking for something small for basically storing music and some videos, and wireless networking for internet. And not a lot more except maybe a game of solitaire or internet pool.
I tried looking but netbooks dont have optical drives, that would make them too big, but then what mini's are there. I suggested an external drive but dont know how much of a pain that would be. i tihnk he wants it for putting CD's on iTunes etc.

Netbooks generally don't have CD drives, if they do I think they are classified as laptops.

External CD drives (from what I have seen at least) tend to be quite bulky, so its fine if it is going to stay on a desk, but if you wanted the CD drive portable, it probably wouldn't be the best choice to go with the netbook. They work in the same way as an external hard drive would work, plug in via USB/Firewire/eSATA and it will appear in My Computer ready for use.

Well yeah the CD drive would stay put. And i imagine the netbook wouldnt do that much travel but still, it wants me to be smaller "just in case".
