having ditched the last printer.. the lexmark one.. because the driver made windows xp crah... ( and they actually sent me a reply saying."ohh yeah.. have your money back"..) .. i bought an epson.... all was fine.. printed fax stuff... basic text ect...got a card reader..very handy..
then i found out it drank ink like billy-oo. expensive cartradges... and you cant re- fill them... nazis have put a chip in the thing so when ink gets so low.. its is seen as always empty... even if you fill it back up.. sneaky cocke-ends.
then i did some proper photos on glossy paper yesterday... and they come out way to dark.. used the epson software.. used photoshop to determine colours.. still to dark so with inks at 29 quid a go..
anyone got any sugestions for a new one... that will do photos with a card reader/scaner///

Re: new printer
I personally look at Canon printers.

If it has a rating of 8 or 9 then it should be fairly good. They base their ratings on function for the price rather than just value or functionality.

Re: new printer
I brought this last week got it for £300 from Amazon plus i get £100 cash back (hopefully) ive sent it off.
The reviews are not that good but the model above is exactly the same, has the same print engine but with wifi and a flash reader yet that got a much better review. i dont trust all the reviews, the printer is spot on no problems test tried everything and it chucked it out.
Bit noisey when it starts and it is big.
My Mrs is a teacher so we need a decent printer and this thing is huge compared to the last one we had,
It's some tool, so fast and document's look professional so it's good for my business and it just sits on my network at home.
photo's not so good but we get 50 free photo prints with virgin every month.
For £200 it's deal i think...
then i looked at the price of the toners Jesus! but i suppose with 2200 pages it'll last a fair while.
I asked her to see if the school would pay for the toners, then id set up a printing shop!

Re: new printer
I got a cheap Samsung mono-tone laser which for £50 and it's extremely fast although a little noisy and full duplex. Can't remember how much the toner was but it was cheap. They were being discontinued which was why it was so cheap but the toner cartridge is the same as the ones used in later models so they should be around for a while.
