Opinions on a configuration please?

Post by Revolver »

What do you think to this sort of config? I'm kinda guessing so would like some help with what to tweak about?

I finish paying for laser eye next moth so may fuck it and use that spare income to take the plunge. You only live once and all that.

As Sparksy said get 8GB RAM and you have a machine that should last quite a while.

The fancy lights are extra and not sure I'm bothered. Unless you can turn them off all it's likely to do is make my room glow for no reason. The RAM is minimal but also cheaper on amazon. The 570 was available as a "free upgrade" instead of a 560Ti but it's way more expensive than a 6850 which according to benchmarks is about the best fps/£ you can get.

I am so close to just ordering it but I think the likely scenario is wait till after Xmas and see what I have saved (it's amazing what 10 weeks no smoking saves you!), I've also got some extra cash coming for holiday I haven't taken. I'm also thinking maybe they'll have some new year offers...?

Just checked and 8gb of Kingston hyper x blu is £38 on amazon. Only thing is how it would affect warranty.

Like all companies they will do what they can to get out of a warranty.

As for lights, avoid. I like my Antec 1200 and my previous 900 but the lights drive me mad and I can't leave it on overnight as the lights keep me up (they are really bright).

That case doesn't exactly look light crazy anyway. It's not like it has a clear panel or anything so it wood only be the fans on show by looks of it. I think Sparksy would have to answer that one for me as he knows first hand!

The other thing is the monitor, they arent too expensive on there but the choice is rather limited...

Don't choose one of their monitors (assuming you can go through without and get a better one later on).

My fans have 3 LED's in each, and are rather annoying. I was hoping for a dull glow, not light up a dark room. Most motherboards have power LEDs and stuff on them now too which is nice for detecting problems but not good when you have a window on the side of the case.

if its all tweaked for you then it would save alot of hassle... im going to have to do some reseach into this one....

it doesnt boot up quick..seems like its searching for the operating system. not sure if i should set up raid with the 3 hds... and fuck knows how i do it anyway..

updated bios.... seems the same... the thing also sleeps... goes off..and when you turn it on... instead of going into windows intro... its goes back to my desktop 8O strange shit going on....

Most likely going in to standby or hibernation. If you leave it plugged in all the time then that's fine, just loads up faster.

There will be settings in BIOS that you can set to speed up boot time.

Manually set first boot device to the hard drive with windows on it.
turn off SMART.
