New rig

Post by NItro{IRE} »

Anyone got any spec recommendations for a new rig? I am going to maybe buy a store built pc but i want one for around 400 quid i think that's a reasonable price to pay for a really good gaming rig

I assume that is excluding monitor and peripherals otherwise you won't be getting much at all, especially gaming wise.

If you are buying in Ireland as well you may have more problems as I'm pretty sure it's a fair amount more expensive.

But spec wise for that price:

Intel Core i3
4GB RAM
Nvidia GTX550 series/ATi Radeon 6850

And that is if you are lucky, that's probably pushing £500 odd once you add in PSU, HDD, case, DVD etc.

You'll need to up your budget to £700-800 to get a half decent gaming rig.

I've been looking for months now and although I haven't ordered anything I know what I would buy. And to get a "top of the mid range" gaming PC which has an i5 2500k and a decent gfx card like a 6850 you're looking at £650. That includes case, psu, mobo, ram, ssd and windows 7. So yes you can save on ssd and widows 7 but if you need a HDD you're going to be spending not far off the same anyway.

You won't get a good gaming rig without either building your own or paying £800 upwards for a pre built. I was looking at pre builds but by time you customise the gfx or psu (there is always something). You end up spending a fortune.

I'm doing the sensible thing and holding on to my cash. Might even wait for the new Ivy Bridge processors to come out, see if the sandy bridge prices drop seeing as an i5 will be grand for gaming for a few years yet.

Depending on what you have at the moment, you might not be able to transfer over the graphics card and most likely won't be able to transfer the RAM either.

It's alright, but it's not a great gaming PC.
