Walked part of South Downs Way.

Will have a look at steammover, although it doesn't work properly with Valve games due to the way the files are stored, so would have to leave them on the SSD (although they are the most played so not a major problem).

It's a bit of a joke really that a product such as steam doesn't allow you to choose where games are installed. It can't be that difficult for them to do when so many 3rd party programs can do it.

Just googled south downs way. I want to be doing things like that, looks good. I've got a week off in two weeks time if you fancy doing the whole stretch of it

I would be happy to but I really hate camping. We stayed in a forest overnight and I didn't sleep at all. 9 hours in a pitch black tent doing fuck all.

We didn't go very far either. Monday was 15 miles, Tuesday was 11 miles. I do part of it with work each year which is 40 miles in one day. My friends are rather lazy and unfit.

I have no experience camping at all, but I know I'd like it. Did you carry food/water for one nights stop then? How did your route work? Just double back on yourself or did you park a car at either end of the route?

Parked in a small town just off the South Downs Way, walked on to it then followed through to the coast. On our way back we went off the South Downs Way following another footpath and camped in a forest (It makes you feel sorry for people who film in the jungle, in the morning the sound of thousands of birds was extremely loud, doubt anyone could sleep through it). Then circled back round to the South Downs Way back to the car.

We all carried around 3 litres of water with us and food for ourselves (I just brought 3 pasties and 2 bags of jelly babies). We stopped at one pub on the way down to the coast so ate there and topped up our water. Unfortunately on the way back the pubs early on were still closed, but we managed to top off drinks at a pub later on. Then we stopped off at a pub in the town we parked at (bar maid was hot ).

When we do the walk with work, we do a straight line 40 miles. Teams of 4 with a support driver who meets the team at set checkpoints so that water and food can be topped up then picked up at the finish.

If you are doing it without support driver, you either need to loop around or take a straight route and get a train back to your start. Carrying the tents etc. was a bit of a pain and fairly heavy.

My work has 7 of them across the UK - http://www.action.org.uk/get_involved/o ... plod_walks

But you are basically in the middle of a triangle of 3 of them, Chalkland (Yorkshire); Chiltern and Cotswold. But you would be able to organise your own around the Peak District, I'm sure you can find plenty of routes online.

Camping, you need to make sure you bring a sleeping mat or something. Sleeping on hard ground is a pain (literally).
