Unless there is a significant financial benefit I don't see the point. All you are doing is giving your money away (losing any potential interest), leaving the publisher with money up front for something that they haven't delivered yet.

Not exactly true. When I have pre ordered with amazon they didn't even take the money till a day before release. In fact, with DX:HR I preordered two days before release and got it on release day. Good stuff.

Amazon do that price promise as well so you get the cheapest price. If it goes up you pay original price and if it goes down you pay the reduced, so essentially you're just getting to the front of the queue. Although it's not like stocks run out these days, or you buy digital anyway.

Amazon is alright, but Steam takes your money immediately.
