think everyone that played the game got caught out there. Ironically it becomes the best leveling spot on the game in disc 2. Get Quina, learn lvl5 Death - Game over for Grand Dragon

Yup and the second time I played the game, I had forgotten about it and still went up. Wasn't until the battle started and I though 'oh fuck'. Luckily saved beforehand.

I always race through the game to get to that point - and level up to 50+ really shouldnt though, the game becomes too easy then....
