Bought one of these to backup all my pics and stuff and help me move what I wanted to my new HD's. Anyone got experience with the Smartware software? I installed it last night (from the my passport) then formatted the drive. Got a feeling I shouldn't have done that though as when it installed it upgraded my software to pro. Not sure how that will work when it comes to installing the software on new drive. I can download it from their support site but I'm a bit worried it'll be the basic or trial version.
At the moment it's just a giant flash disk with a password on it. Thinking I'll remove the security too on case shit goes wrongs. Don't want to lose everything trying to copy it over

I personally wouldn't have bothered with their software.
I've given up on doing local backups as it always seems to be the backup drive that fails so I just shove everything on to Google Drive, have 140GB of storage for £1.20 a month.
Music and games can be lost without too much issue, would be annoying but not end of the world. Pics and other docs are all backed up and music is all on Google Play Music which allows for 20,000 songs, currently at 14,000.
i had a right mare getting my new HD to even show up on the rig..... i had to go into admin shite and actually give it a name.. like E before i could use it ...

Just had to do this with the Caviar black I now have. Finally moved on form the two you sold me Skel. The 320GB blue and 500GB green are now looking for a home. Perfectly good working order still! I forgot they were even WD's until I took them out!

Before you get rid of them you will want to make sure you wipe them properly
