Re: Off on holiday
Finally got some sleep.
Trip didn't start off too good. Ferry was to leave Dover at 5pm and I was to be picked up 88 miles away between 2-2:30pm.
Come 3:35pm, they finally arrived and had to print off bookings for a few hotels etc, so we were on our way to Dover at 3:40pm.
Razzed it down the M25, M20, A20 and finally arrived in Dover around 4:50pm at which point we ran out of fuel and the car died. So we pushed it down a side street and walked up the road where there was a petrol station. Put 5 litres in the car and it still wouldn't start and now the battery was dying. So went to get some more fuel and eventually managed to jump start the car. We then pulled in at the next petrol station and filled up, at which point we realised the inside tread on one of the tyres was down to the wire.
We finally got to the ferry port around 6:30pm or so and managed to change to the 7:30pm ferry.
Now in France at 10pm (GMT+1) on a Saturday, there are no tyre places open, so we decided to just drive carefully up to Amsterdam. We arrived in Amsterdam at 5am and everyone was pissing off home and none of the hostels had any spaces and we would of been thrown out at 11am anyway, so we decided to drive just out of Amsterdam to a residential area where you don't have to pay for parking and try to sleep in the car. The others did fine, but I couldn't so I went for a walk and found a park with lots of ducks (w00t). At 9am we drove back in to Amsterdam and went to a coffee shop and the others got some "stuff".
We then went on to drive in to Germany. We got to Hannover at 9pm or so and tried to find a hotel at a service station to stay at during the night, eventually found one around 20 miles past Hannover. Got a room for 2 and snuck the other 2 in and they slept on the floor. We then proceeded to Berlin the next day and had trouble finding the hostel we were supposed to be staying at and ended up driving up and down the same road 4-5 times, but eventually found it and later that night went in to central Berlin and saw some of the sites (very nice city by the way).
Up in the morning we set off to Warsaw. On the way we decided to get the tyre sorted. Found some small German garage, person didn't speak any English, but we eventually managed to get a second hand tyre fitted for £20 or so. Off we went.
We didn't realise how big Poland is and how shit the roads were. Roadwords everywhere, prostitutes scattered around. Again ended up driving around in circles trying to find the hotel, but eventually found it, again we had to sneak 2 in to the room to save money.
Next day woke up to go to concert at which point the others realised they had completely run out of the "stuff".
Back from the concert, slept then left the hotel early only to realise that the tyre had a huge bulge on the inside of the tyre (which we called the tyre boob) which the German fitted. So we went to find a garage in Poland and they weren't very helpful, kept trying to pass us off to the next garage, eventually we found one and got another second hand tyre fitted which cost around £15.
The others decided they wanted more weed, so we decided to do a mega run of over 800 miles to Amsterdam. Just before we left Poland we got pulled over for doing 125kmph in a 70kmph zone. Driver managed to get away without a ticket or fine by saying "but in Britain we do 70mph" over and over again. I think the officer got pissed off and told him to go.
So we drove for 18 hours and eventually made it to Amsterdam at some time that I can't remember and we found a car park and went out to get some more "stuff". Found a hostel to stay at for the night for 2 people and unfortunately were caught trying to sneak another 2 in, so ended up sleeping in the car in a multistory car park after a nice walk around the red light district.
We eventually left Amsterdam around 8-8:30AM and made out way back to Bolounge to get the ferry back which left at 3pm. I was navigating and fell asleep and the driver took the wrong turning at Brugge and ended up going north and through some small Belgian towns (lovely little places right by the coast). Then just as we got towards the ferry port there was shit loads of traffic and we were fucked time wise. So after the road works, we razzed it again and made it to the ferry port at 2:20pm, checkin was supposed to close at 2:15pm but luckily we were able to get through and made it home with no bother.
In total, the drive was over 2,500 miles. Don't drive to Poland....
