Euro 2012

Post by Revolver »

So I'm gonna pretend this was made before any games kicked off because despite the scores that have happened these were my pre tournament thoughts.

To win I have a feeling for the Germans or Italy. Because they both have decent teams and seem to turn up at tournament time. On paper Spain should win but I just don't think they are gonna cut it this time. Not sure why, I just don't.

I don't rate England's chances highly, there are some strange players left out in my opinion. For example I am not sure how players like Adam Johnson weren't called up when Downing was. However, because nobody is expecting anything I can see us somehow reaching the semi's. A lot depends on the France opener.

Other teams I'm worried about. France, because they're better than they have been for the last decade
and similarly to England nobody has really talked them up. The other one is Russia. Good players, some match winners and a good team ethic. Last of all, I wouldn't say I'm worried, but I have a feeling Ireland could get out the groups if they beat Croatia in the opener and then who knows! They're on a good run and a have good defence (see the good luck Ireland thread :D) so like I say, who knows.

Holland are over rated and I don't think will get all too far (but I didn't see the defeat to the Danes coming!). Don't see Portugal, Poland, Ukraine, Greece, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic or Croatia having any impact.

I think that's pretty much everyone!

Holland is probably over rated, but we do have the best players by far. The defeat by the Danes was pathetic. If we take Germany, Portugal, Italy, Spain and France, we could have a chance.

A lot of the best players that's true, but for years it has just not come together. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see "Total Football" team dominate the Euro's and smash everyone 5-0 (except England, I'd need a 5-4 if we were gonna lose lol) but for one reason or another the modern Holland doesn't play when it matters. The world cup final for example was abysmal by both teams. People are too scared to lose which showed in the last WC final and in pretty much any England team since 1990, bar the 96' team which were damn unlucky.

It would be nice to see a care free team go on a run, like the Czech's in 96' or even like the young Germans of 06' who didn't give a shite and got to the semi's (I think?). That's why I have fingers crosses Ireland do something. Plus all the neutrals seem to love the boys in green for whatever reason so it could bring a bit of joy to the racist eastern bloc

I have to agree with you. A player like "Robin van Persie" is so much focused on scoring that he missed all of 'em. That's probably because we have others just waiting to take over his position. Think this is the problem with a lot of (national) teams these days. Don't really care if we win, just want to see some nice football like you mentioned earlier.

Ireland, you let me down. Croatia looked a lot better than I thought they would but was it just that Ireland were crap? We'll know more after the 2nd round of games I guess. Fingers crossed for England tomorrow. I seriously don't know which way to call it although I think we're favourites?

Holland played well against the Danes but couldn't finish. Spain did the same, played really well but didn't finish (although both goals in that match were brilliant through balls). Problem with Spain is, they didn't have a striker. Brought Torres on and he probably should of finished but wasn't going to be his day.

I can't see England getting anything against France.

Only watched part of the Poland match, the Holland match and the Spain match. Not sure I can be bothered to watch England, always a boring affair.

It won't be. I'm not going to watch it, but when I go in to work tomorrow and come on here, I am going to post 'I told you so.' and you are going to agree.

Have too much to do tonight so won't have time to watch it anyway.

Only saw the second half and it wasn't great.

Parker looked pretty shit, as did Milner. No idea how the referee didn't give a free kick for the foul on Gerrard on the edge of the area. Clattered on to the ground.
