Rates and Console commands/configuration

Post by Oglaigh »

Hi guys

Just wondering if someone could help me out here, suppositly there is a problem with my rates and earlier poontang gave me some commands to fix them. However how do I know if this has worked? Iam not to up to scratch on the console commands. I can use bot commands in single player, demo commands and get that annoying Fps display up, but thats it... :? So how can I set my rates or stop them from changing in the future because I have never had a complaint up till this point, as Ive never changed them.

Any replys as to how to avoid this problem or useful links to sites would be welcome.

Regards Oglaigh

The only reason i complained was because i couldnt seem to hit you, there was one 1v1 i remember and i fired a shotty at you, blood all over wall behind you, then boom im dead and you still had 100hp! When i looked at ma_rates you were showing 20000, 20 ,30. Rates change according to conn speeds etc so its probably nothing you have done. In the console ` button type

cl_cmdrate 100
cl_updaterate 100
rate 25000

The cmdrate and updaterate should be around the server speed, the new server being 100 tick your rates should be in the same ball park. Mines 101 103 25000, dunno why its just what its set too.

People sometimes set there rates low to give them an advantage. Naboo did it all the time, he was unkillable with his 18000 20 20 rates untill i told him to change em to the server standard, suddenley his kd came down....

Anyway to see if commands have worked after typing them in and playing go back into console just type the first part of command again and the autofill underneath will show you the figure your set too. And dont worry, ill be the first to shout if there not set right ;-)

I sugguest you put them into the autoexec.cfg
Then you don't have to change them everytime you start CSS

Ok ive found a folder called cstrike\cfg\cfg.cfg.....under the line C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\sniperjim1985\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg, is that the flolder? I found the cl_updaterate "100" and cl_cmdrate "100", where abouts is the rate command for rate "25000" or does cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate generate it automaticaly?, LoL I will do a bit of reading up on the css console, eventually. :D but there is so many procrastinational things to do first :D

That is the right folder.
The commands are just like Poon said:

cl_cmdrate 100
cl_updaterate 100
rate 25000

Put those 3 lines in your autoexec.cfg and it should be fine.

btw. I thought that the rates were automaticly changed when someone connects and that the ma_rates check doesn't show the correct rates

It should. But as it doesn't show in ma_rates I have no idea if it works or not.

Probably not after reading Poon's post.
So we can accuse people of rate hacking again?
