So, what we're saying is, that 720/HD Ready Samsung is perfectly adequate for a couple of years at least...

Yep especially on small screens. If you are close to large screens (42"+) then you will be able to notice the difference but otherwise you may as well save money and get an HD ready screen.

Don't read many books. Most books I do read are about Drupal, PHP or jQuery...

Ars does have a few articles about carbon nanotubes....does that count?

Am gonna go look at that Samsung in Currys this afternoon, can get it for about £290 with discount and cashback. Just worried that i might be sitting a bit too close to it to have a 'decent' picture.

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/lg-m2762d- ... 7-pdt.html

This would come to about £255. 26" is my current screen size in a big old tele (so not really 26" screen either) so I know it would do. But a few ? over this one. Read that the speakers are kinda poor and can't really find any more info on it which says a lot in itself... Guess i will take a look at that in store as well.

I sit around 2.5-3ft away from my 24" monitor and don't have a problem, so you should be fine.

When in Currys make them playing a fast action film, not an animated film or TV show as they will look good regardless of the TV. Internal speakers are virtually always crap, but when looking for a TV for your bedroom I probably wouldn't care too much.

Or football, anything with fast moving bits and prefereably dark so you can see how the blacks look (that isn't racist).

By the way the DVD drive arrived yesterday, so will get it installed then ready to get it shipped up to you.

Cool cool.
Yeah was reading up on dark darkies. The Samsung is meant to be OK with picture quality, its just the fact its not 1080 reviewers get in a bit of a stress about it. But I swear some reviewers have to get their head out their ass and stop comparing budget tele's to the top line stuff. To me things they say are average probably look great to me.. So I figured it would be best to just go take a look see at it all... Gonna try and get them to reduce in store price as well to match what i can get on internet, then I can pick one up from store instead of fucking about with deliveries.

The 'best' tele in the house is a 37" Panasonic Viera so as long as it is reasonable in comparison I dont really care.

I am sure it will be fine. Although the speakers won't be very good they will probably be fine for general watching but if you are planning on hearing a bit of tumbleweed blowing in the distance through the speakers you should think again.

For a screen that size, 1080P wouldn't be a huge difference over 720P.
